International shipping involves customs duties and taxes. We believe in transparency — here is exactly how it works, so there are no surprises when your object arrives.
Duties and taxes are the responsibility of the recipient. They are charged by your country's customs authority when the package enters your country — not by JIHE Objects.
However, for orders under $800 shipped to the United States, no import duties typically apply (under the US de minimis threshold). For the EU, UK, Australia, and Canada, duties and VAT/GST may apply. See the table below.
| Region | Threshold | Estimated Duty + Tax | Who Pays |
|---|---|---|---|
| United States | $800 (de minimis) | $0 under $800 | N/A under threshold |
| European Union | €0 (all imports taxed) | ~20–25% VAT + 0–12% duty | Recipient |
| United Kingdom | £0 | 20% VAT + 0–12% duty | Recipient |
| Canada | CAD $20 | 5% GST + provincial tax + duty | Recipient |
| Australia | AUD $0 (GST applies to all) | 10% GST + 0–5% duty | Recipient |
| Other countries | Varies | Varies by country | Recipient |
These are estimates. Actual charges depend on your country's customs classification of ceramic, bamboo, and lacquer goods. Check with your local customs office for definitive rates.
Duties and taxes are charged when the package enters your country, not at checkout. The customs authority (or the carrier on their behalf) will contact you to pay before delivery. In some cases, the carrier will pay on your behalf and collect the amount at your door.
We currently ship on a DDU (Delivered Duty Unpaid) basis. This means the product price at checkout does not include your country's import duties or taxes. We are working on offering DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) for major markets in 2026, which would include all duties at checkout so there are no surprises.
Masterworks are higher-value pieces ($500–$5,000+). Duties on these will be proportionally higher. We recommend factoring in approximately 15–25% of the order value for duties and taxes, depending on your country. For Masterworks orders, we provide a commercial invoice with HS codes to help your customs broker process the shipment efficiently.
No. The price you pay at checkout covers the product, packaging, and shipping. The only additional cost is duties and taxes charged by your government, which is outside our control. We do not add handling fees, brokerage fees, or surcharges.
If you refuse to pay duties and the package is returned to us, we will issue a refund for the product cost minus return shipping costs (typically $50–$150 depending on destination). See our Returns Policy for details.
No. We declare the full commercial value of every shipment. Under-declaring value is customs fraud and is illegal in most countries. We will not accommodate requests to under-declare.
