How to keep
your objects.

Celadon & Stoneware

• Hand wash with warm water. No detergent.
• Dishwasher safe (top rack) — but hand washing preserves the glaze longer.
• Microwave safe (without metal trim).
• The crackle pattern that develops over time is natural and desired — do not attempt to remove it.
• Dry thoroughly before storing. The unglazed foot can stain wooden surfaces if damp.

Bambu

• Wipe with a dry cloth. Avoid water.
• Keep away from direct sunlight to prevent fading and cracking.
• Re-apply natural wax every 6–12 months to maintain the surface.
• Bamboo can mould if left damp — dry thoroughly between uses.
• If the surface becomes dull, sand lightly with fine paper and re-wax.

Laca

• Wipe with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use water or any cleaning solution.
• Keep away from direct sunlight — UV will fade the lacquer over time.
• Do not use brass polish or any abrasive cleaner.
• The surface will deepen in colour with age — this is desired.
• If the surface becomes dull, rub gently with a soft cotton cloth.

Brass

• Let cool completely before handling after incense use.
• Wipe with a dry cloth. Do not use brass polish — the patina is desired.
• Empty ash by inverting and tapping gently.
• The brass will darken with age — each burner becomes unique to its owner.

Wood (Cedar, Walnut)

• Wipe with a dry cloth. Avoid water.
• Re-apply natural oil (walnut or linseed) every 3–6 months.
• Keep away from direct heat sources.
• Cedar scent will fade over years — sand lightly with fine paper to refresh.
• Do not oil cedar — it is naturally resistant to moisture.

General Tips

• Use your objects daily. Objects that are used and maintained last longer than those stored away.
• Handle with care, but do not be afraid — handmade objects are often stronger than they look.
• If an object breaks, contact us. Some pieces can be repaired using kintsugi (golden joinery) or other traditional techniques.
• Keep The JIHE Book with the object — it contains specific care instructions and a record of the piece.
